Dolls
After a long break I’ve been back at the sewing machine!
Scary baby cloth dolls. There is no end to their evolving styles. Made me think about how alike we are and so different. These are machine pieced and hand appliquéd and embellished.
Stitched the faces on a dozen doll bodies before we left for Morocco/portugal trip and carried them with us with appropriate scraps, threads, needles etc then carried them home.
Made with hand dyed and printed fabrics and screened faces of the world famous scary babies. They are approximately 12”.
I started making dolls in the 80’s and became a part of a surge of folks creating figures of all kinds. Privileged to be in on the early side of that trend, I was able to teach and meet other inspiring teachers and students around the country. I still give credit to Elinor Peace Bailey for putting me on a list that bounced me out into that growing creative area. Doll making is a richly satisfying outlet for all kinds of creative itches. Possible materials include fabric, paints, threads, buttons, sticks, roots, paper clay, fimo, rope, wire, etc. etc. There is the added bonus of curious conversations emerging from unknown realms. #--)
